Google banned one of my accounts for no reason
I always sort of thought the tales of Google banning accounts for "no reason" were exaggerated.
Surely the user violated some policy, even if we could debate the merit of that policy. Right?
A few days ago I tried to log into an account I'd set up specifically for another site I maintain, and received a message the account was disabled for a policy violation.
The message claimed I'd been emailed at a recovery address with details on the violation. That was untrue, as I'd received zero information on the supposed infraction.
I had set up the account very recently, and had never even sent an email using the address. There was basically no use of the account yet.
I was able to request a manual review. This did result in the account being reactivated – but I never found out what I "did" to get it disabled to begin with.
It felt a bit like I was Josef K. in The Trial, and I guess I can now count myself as one of those surely-exaggerated stories.
Google can keep their account; I'm done with it.
